Flugelhorn, Tuba and Piano
Written for Robin Sisk and Fred Green, 2016
The piece is marked “wistfully” at the beginning. In my mind, I see a young man standing in a field digging in the ground. As he looks up, he can imagine the bounty he is cultivating and the farm that will one day be there. How easy it is to become distracted by other things, to be swept away by promises that swiftly sour and turn to conflict, dashing our dreams and ripping them from us. This piece is a reminder to keep cultivating our own dreams and to respect the dreams of others.
