Prelude Op. 9, No. 1 - by Alexandr Scriabin - arranged for Brass Quintet by Dwight Tibbetts.

The origin of the Prélude et Nocturne op. 9 for the left hand by Alexander Scriabin (1872–1915) is closely connected with an unpleasant event in the composer’s life. In the summer of 1891, while he was studying at the Moscow Conservatory, Scriabin overtaxed his right hand through virtuoso piano etudes. This hand injury proved to be serious and even jeopardised Scriabin’s career as a pianist. The piece for the left hand op. 9
were written in 1894, while Scriabin was still troubled by this affliction - but it turned out to be immensely popular, and sold out in just days. Here beautifully arranged for Brass Quintet by Dwight Tibbetts. A perfect suit for a more serious concert programme.
