Maria, the pure Virgin - by Joachim A. Burck - Arranged for Brass Ensemble by Mogens Andresen.
(Maria hun var en jomfru ren - Danish Title)
Joachim A. Burck (1546-1610) was a German composer, notable for an early German Passion setting. As Johann Sebastian Bach's predecessor at the church of St Blasius, he pioneered the musical life in post-Reformation Mühlhausen, bringing it to early fruition. Maria, the pure virgin, is an old Danish Christmas song, with original lyrics ( not included ) by N.F.S. Grundtvig. Mogens´s arrangement is yet another example of great instrumentation, a very creative piece. Fun to play, and an excellent choice for any Brass Ensemble concert.
