This is a phantastic start for a concert. It take quite some time some work (especially for trumpets) but its worth every effort
Shostakovitch - Festive Overture - Brass Ensemble
Such an amazing arrangement, really captures the original orchestral piece! The Piccolo part is insanely chopsy though!
Festive Overture, Op. 96 - by Dmitri Shostakovitch - arranged for Brass Ensemble by Øivind Westby.
Dmitri Shostakovich’s five-minute Festive Overture in A major, Op. 96, was written in 1947 to mark the 30th anniversary of the October Revolution. It was not performed however until the 37th anniversary, when Alexander Melik-Pashayev conducted it during a Nov. 6, 1954, concert in Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre.
This epic piece was arranged for the Norwegian Brass Ensemble in 2010 in a similar epic arrangement by Mr. Westby. Simply magnificent work.
