commissioned by The New Hampshire Music Teachers’ Association and the Music Teachers’ National Association in 2004; The work is in three contrasting movements: I. Overture; II. Romanace; and III. Polka. While the work is basically tonal, it exhibits a “contemporary feel” through the use of a mix of tertial and quartal harmonies, the interjection of occasional measures in odd or mixed meters and, in the first and third movements, the use of strong and incisive rhythms.
