composed in 2004 as an entry in the 2005 International Trumpet Guild’s Annual Composition Contest; The work is in three contrasting movements: I. Intrada; II. Lament; and III. MarchA. While the work is basically tonal, it exhibits a “contemporary feel” through the use of a mix of tertial and quartal harmonies, the interjection of occasional measures in odd or mixed meters and, in the first and third movements, the use of strong and incisive rhythms.
